Position Summary

The Inventory Planning & Analysis Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory planning, control, and analysis. This role is responsible for optimizing inventory availability while balancing cost (based on MOQ - EOQ) , demand, and operational efficiency. This role owns the Material Requirements Planning (MRP), translates demand forecasts and production plans into accurate purchasing requirements, and monitors inventory health through key performance metrics. The role works cross-functionally with Purchasing, Production, Sales, and Finance to ensure optimal stock levels, minimize working capital tied up in inventory, and support the company's financial and operational goals. This position monitors inventory performance, drives data accuracy, and identifies opportunities to improve inventory turns, reduce excess stock, and support continuous process improvement. This role reports to the CFO.

Responsibilities:

Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

  • Own and maintain the MRP system, ensuring data integrity across bills of materials (BOMs), lead times, safety stock levels, and reorder points.
  • Translate sales forecasts and production schedules into detailed material and finished goods requirements.
  • Quantify future purchasing needs by demand period (raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods) and communicate requirements to Purchasing in a timely manner.
  • Identify and resolve material shortages, excess positions, or supply constraints before they impact production or customer demand.

Inventory Performance & Analysis

  • Analyze inventory performance metrics, including inventory turns, days of inventory on hand, aging stock and obsolescence risk.
  •  Identify slow-moving, aging (including tracking lot/batch code), or obsolete stock and recommend corrective actions (disposal, off price channel, or reallocation).
  • Develop and maintain dashboards/reports to track inventory KPIs and present findings to the CFO and senior leadership.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including inventory valuation, reserve calculations, and variance analysis vs prior forecasts. 
  • Reconcile physical inventory counts/cycle counts against system records and investigate discrepancies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Supply Chain to align material availability with manufacturing schedules.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing/Procurement on supplier lead times, minimum order quantities, and cost implications of inventory decisions.
  • Support inventory-related input for budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and working capital analysis.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement of inventory planning processes, systems, and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and, where applicable, regulatory requirements related to lot tracking, expiration dating, 
  • Support internal and external audits related to inventory.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in inventory planning, procurement, materials planning, or supply chain operations, preferably within the cosmetics, beauty, personal care, or related consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with MRP/ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and inventory management principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and forecasting. Experience with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) a plus.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Understanding of production workflows, inventory transactions, goods receipt processes, and inventory controls.
  • Financial acumen with the ability to understand the cost and operational impact of inventory decisions and stock adjustments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
Westman Atelier offers a holistic total compensation package designed to support employees in all aspects of life, including a robust suite of health benefits, wellness perks, 401k, and paid parental leave. The base salary for this position will range from $110,000-$130,000. Exact compensation may vary based on job related skills, experience, and location.
